Offensive Woes Plague Boston Fleet Early

The Boston Fleet have managed only two goals in their first two games. It’s not the start offensively the team was hoping for.

The Minnesota Frost came out victorious in Tsongas Center last night, defeating the Boston Fleet 2-1. It marked the second straight game the Fleet scored only a single goal.

The stands were filled with fans excited to see last year’s playoff championship rematch. However, a failure to execute offensive plays and a big hit on Alina Muller cost the Fleet the game.

Once the game started, Aerin Frankel was the star of the show for the Boston Fleet as she saved eight shots in the first period and kept the Fleet in the game.

Early penalties hurt the Fleet’s offensive opportunities. The first penalty was from Daniela Pesjova, and was shortly followed by a penalty from Jessica DiGirolamo for interference. The third and final penalty of the period was called on Emily Brown for delay of game. Six minutes of penalty kill later, Frankel was able to keep Minnesota off of the board. The period ended in a tie zero-to-zero. .

The Fleet’s offense came out struggling in the second period, being outshot 11 – 4. Seven minutes into the period Frost’s Taylor Heise passed the puck behind the back to Michela Cava who shot it into the top left corner of the net.

Despite many efforts from Frankel, this goal slipped right over her shoulder, literally.

“I don’t exactly know what happened. I knew the puck was behind the net and I heard one of our defensive players telling me that it was up in the air, but I didn’t see it.” said Frankel after the game.

The only thing that was keeping the Fleet in the game during the second period was Frankel, who has saved 10/11 shots faced.
